Nuance PowerShare is the industry’s largest medical imaging network with 3+ billion images exchanged by thousands of connected facilities. As part of migrating the PowerShare service to Azure cloud, Nuance database and infrastructure teams approached FlashGrid for help with implementing a highly available Oracle database backend for the service.

Solution

FlashGrid offered Nuance a database backend architecture based on FlashGrid engineered cloud system, an Azure Certified software offering delivered via Azure Marketplace. FlashGrid, featuring Oracle RAC database engine, protects against unexpected infrastructure or software failures with zero RPO and RTO and allows maintenance operations on the database nodes with no service downtime. Infrastructure-as-Code automation makes deployment of the database clusters simple, fast, and repeatable.

  • Three Oracle RAC database nodes:
    E64s_v3 VM type
  • Data Store: 19 TB usable on Premium SSD disks
  • Oracle Database Enterprise Edition ver. 11.2.0.4
  • Oracle Grid Infrastructure ver. 12.2.0.1
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • FlashGrid Storage Fabric ver. 18.07
  • FlashGrid Cloud Area Network ver. 18.07

Nuance PowerShare now has a highly available database backend for providing continuous and uninterrupted medical image sharing service while taking advantage of the flexibility and the agility of the Azure cloud infrastructure.
